Next year, the Supreme Court will celebrate the 110th anniversary of its establishment. The National Bank of Poland (NBP) has announced its intention to issue a collector coin in 2027 to commemorate this important landmark for Polish statehood. The initiative was put forward to the NBP by the First President of the Supreme Court, Zbigniew Kapiński, and was also supported by the Stanisław Pomian-Srzednicki Foundation.
In connection with the public statements made by the Minister of Justice on 4 August 2026 on the TVP Info in the programme ‘Pytanie dnia’ [‘Question of the Day’], I express my outrage and concern regarding the Minister’s systematic and persistent efforts to create a narrative that has a clear political dimension, but above all undermines the stability and constitutional order in Poland.
On 31 July 2026, the First President of the Supreme Court, Zbigniew Kapiński, took part in the ceremony commemorating the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The main ceremonies, attended by the President of the Republic of Poland, Warsaw Insurgents, representatives of state and local government authorities, as well as residents of the capital city, took place at the Warsaw Uprising Monument on Krasińskich Square in Warsaw. The ceremonies were held the day before the official anniversary of the outbreak of the Uprising.
It is with surprise that I note the position of the National Council of the Judiciary, according to which the acts of appointment of assessors [trainee judges], issued on 28 July 2026, are alleged to be invalid due to the lack of the countersignature of the Prime Minister. This position is inconsistent with both the applicable legislation and the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal of 25 June 2026 (K 2/26).
Four new judges have been appointed to the Supreme Court by the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki. The ceremony of presenting the appointment letters took place on 28 July 2026 at the Presidential Palace. During the ceremony, the newly appointed judges took the oath of office before the President of the Republic of Poland.

The President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, by his decision of 9 July 2026, appointed the Supreme Court Judge Maria Szczepaniec to the office of President of the Supreme Court heading the Professional Liability Chamber as of 9 July 2026.
Acting in the interests of the proper functioning of the administration of justice, on 1 July 2026, the First President of the Supreme Court, Zbigniew Kapiński, addressed an official letter to the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, concerning the election of lay judges to the Supreme Court for the third term of office, from 2027 to 2030. The letter pointed out, inter alia, the need to conduct the procedure with due seriousness and full awareness of its consequences for citizens and the Supreme Court.
On 22-23 June 2026, the 16th Conference of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of Central and Eastern Europe was held in Skopje. The Conference was attended by Zbigniew Kapiński, First President of the Supreme Court, and dr hab. Antoni Bojańczyk, a judge of the Supreme Court.
On 18 June 2026, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Poland was admitted as an institutional member of the European Law Institute (ELI). The initiative to join the ELI was put forward in 2025 by the then First President of the Supreme Court, dr hab. Małgorzata Manowska.
