

Janusz GODYŃ was born 22nd December 1949 in Wałbrzych.
In the years 1967-1971 he studied at the Faculty of Law at the Jagiellonian University, where in 1971 he obtained M.A. degree in law.
In January 1972 he was called up to the professional military service, first in Frontier Guards and next, beginning from October 1972, in military judiciary. After his post-graduate legal training, he passed his examination for a judge and, beginning 1974, he ruled as assistant judge and, later on, as judge in military courts.
From 1978 to 1982 he functioned as vice-chairman at military courts in the garrisons of Koszalin and Katowice, and from 1982 to 1987 as the chairman of the court in Katowice.
From 1987 to 1990 he fulfilled the duties of the chairman of the Warsaw District Military Court in Warsaw.
On 1st July 1990 he was appointed a Supreme Court justice and President of the Supreme Court and began the managing of the work of its Military Chamber.
In 1997 he was promoted to the rank of Major-General.
From 1990 to 1998 he was a member of the National Council of Judicature.
As President of Military Chamber he made extraordinary appeals against the sentences for the convicted for political reasons in the years 1944 - 1989.
He participated in the legislative work on a new model criminal law proceedings in front of military courts and on the law governing the structure of military law
courts.
Discharged form professional military service and transferred
to army reserve on April 30, 2003
