

Tadeusz ERECIŃSKI was born 16th September 1946 in Lódź.
From 1963 to 1968 studied at the Faculty of Law of Warsaw University where in 1968 he obtained M.A. degree in law. From 1966 to 1971 he pursued parallel studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the same University, which he completed with M.A. degree in sociology.
After the studies at the Faculty of Law, beginning 1st October 1968, he was employed as assistant at the Institute of Civil Law Procedure of the Faculty of Law, Warsaw University. He did an extra-mural court training by the Voivodship Court for the Capital City of Warsaw and, in 1972, he passed his examination for a judge.
In 1974, upon the paper entitled "Court vindication of claims under the obligatory motor vehicle insurance" (for which he was awarded the 2nd prize in a contest organised by "The State and the Law" (Państwo i Prawo) periodical), he was conferred the doctor's degree in legal sciences He was next employed as a lecturer at the Institute of Civil Law of Warsaw University.
In 1981 he was conferred the degree of doctor habilitated in the field of civil law procedure upon the paper entitled "Foreign law in the civil court proceedings" (the 1st prize winner at a contest organised by "The State and the Law" periodical) and was appointed an associate professor there. From 1987 to 1990 he performed the function of Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration.
Since 1997 he has performed the function of Head of Institute, now Chair of Civil Law Procedure at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Warsaw University.
From 1985 to 1990 he lectured on civil law procedure and international private law at the Catholic University of Lublin.
In 1990 he was appointed extraordinary professor at Warsaw University. In 1991 he was conferred the academic title of professor in legal sciences. Since 1997 he has been ordinary professor of Warsaw University.
He had many foreign traineeships abroad. In the academic year 1984/85 he held the Humboldt Foundation scholarship in Bonn and Hamburg.
Since 1990 he has been a member of the Committee on the Reform of Civil Law by Minister of Justice, and since 1997 he has been vice-chairman of the Civil Law Codification Committee.
Since November 1990 he has been a Supreme Court Justice at its Civil Chamber.
On 21st November 1996 he was appointed President of the Supreme Court and began to manage the work of the Civil Chamber.
The academic output of Professor Ereciński includes more than eighty publications in the field of civil law procedure, international law of criminal proceedings, organisation of justice administration and sociology of law, among which there are: 5 books, more than 60 papers and articles, contributions to collective works (a dozen or so of which in foreign languages ) and numerous glosses to Supreme Court's decisions. Among his book publications (apart from his doctor's and doctor's habilitated theses which have appeared in print) there are: Proceedings in front of the State Authorities (1985), Appeal and Cassation in Lawsuit ( 1996), A Commentary to the Code of Civil Law Procedure ( Part 1 and 3 - 1997, 1998 ).
Since March 1991 he has been the editor in chief of "The Court Survey" (Przegląd Sądowy), a legal monthly.
He is a Member of International Association of Procedural Law.
